“Can I join a yoga class on Lombok or the Gili Islands?” “How much is a single drop-in class, and do I need to book?” “If I want to do several days, how do I choose a retreat?” These are the questions people ask when they want to fit yoga into a trip.
In short, the yoga places that are easiest for visitors to join are on Gili Air, Gili Trawangan and in Kuta Lombok on the south coast. At Gili Yoga on Gili Trawangan you can join a class without booking from Rp200,000 (about US$11) per class, according to its official website in October 2026. If you want several days, there are two forms: staying at a yoga centre, or a resort stay package with yoga attached. Compare them by length, what is included and how much travel is involved.
This article is based on the five yoga places in Lombok that the official Indonesia tourism site (indonesia.travel) introduces, and on what we could confirm on each venue’s official website. Many venues do not publish class times or prices online, and we say so where we could not confirm something. It is written for people who want to add yoga to a trip to Lombok or the Gilis, and for those planning a few days with yoga as the main purpose.

THE SHORT ANSWER
Yoga classes are concentrated on Gili Air, Gili Trawangan and in Kuta Lombok. For a single class, Gili Yoga (Rp200,000 per class, no booking needed, prices published) is an easy example to plan around. For several days, compare length, inclusions and travel, and confirm times and prices directly with the venue before you sign up (October 2026).
Where can you do yoga on Lombok and the Gili Islands?
The official Indonesia tourism site lists five places to practise yoga in Lombok: Sunset Beach Yoga Gili and Gili Yoga on Gili Trawangan, H2O Yoga and Meditation Center on Gili Air, and Ashtari and Mana Lombok in Kuta Lombok. Three of the five are on the Gilis and two are in Kuta Lombok.
Beyond these, some resorts on the north coast let you add yoga to a stay package. The official website of The Lombok Lodge in Medana says that a 60-minute morning yoga session can be added to its spa and yoga stay package for two.
Teachers also come to hotels and resorts. A 2025 paper in a journal published by the state Hindu institute in Mataram (IAHN Gde Pudja Mataram) looks at teachers from the local organisation Lombok Yoga Center, who teach visitors at hotels and resorts on Lombok, and reports that they adapt their teaching to visitors’ backgrounds and needs. Even if your hotel has no yoga space, it is worth asking the front desk whether they can arrange a class.
On the other hand, in Sekotong in southwest Lombok and on Gili Meno, we found no yoga studio that we could confirm on an official website or the tourism board. This does not mean there are none, only that we could not confirm one from published information.

How much is a drop-in class, and how do you join?
The venue that published its prices and joining process in the most detail was Gili Yoga on Gili Trawangan. As shown on its official website in October 2026, a single class is Rp200,000 (about US$11) per person, payable by cash or card. The price for locals is Rp100,000 per class.
There are class packs: 3 classes for Rp550,000 (about US$31), 5 for Rp875,000 (about US$49) and 10 for Rp1,600,000 (about US$90). Per class, that works out to about Rp183,000 with the 3-pack, Rp175,000 with the 5-pack and Rp160,000 with the 10-pack. Packs cannot be shared or refunded. A private class with your own teacher is Rp1,000,000 (about US$56) and must be booked at least a day ahead. The website does not say how many people it covers.

The website also explains how to join. No booking is needed; you sign in at the front office at least 10 minutes before the class starts. Mats, blocks, bolsters and straps are provided. Towels are not on that list, and the website suggests bringing a small towel or a sarong if you like. Filtered water is available, so a reusable bottle is handy. According to the timetable on the website, Sunrise Flow (75 minutes) starts at 8:30 am Monday to Saturday, and one class starts at 5 pm every day (Vinyasa, Yin or Hatha depending on the day, Hatha Flow on Sunday); there is no Sunday morning class (October 2026). All classes are open to all levels, and new students or anyone with an injury are asked to tell the teacher before class.
For the other venues, we could not confirm class times or single-class prices on their official websites. As a point of comparison, our guide to massage and spa prices on Lombok puts a 60 to 90 minute massage at a town massage shop at about Rp150,000 to 450,000. Since we could not confirm yoga prices elsewhere, carry some extra cash in case a venue does not take cards.
Gili Air or Gili Trawangan: which suits a yoga trip?
As a rough guide: Gili Air if you want quiet evenings too, Gili Trawangan if you want to check prices and the joining process in advance.
For the rest of what Gili Air offers, from snorkelling and diving to sunsets and bikes, and where to stay on the island, see our Gili Air guide.
On Gili Air, H2O Yoga and Meditation Center says on its official website that it holds yoga classes three times a day, as checked for our Gili Air guide. The official tourism site describes its circular shala (practice space) surrounded by gardens and water features, and its workshops and retreats. The tourism site’s Indonesian-language page describes Gili Air as a quiet island without motor vehicles. We could not confirm class times or single-class prices on the official website. For how Gili Air compares with its neighbour, see Gili Air or Gili Meno: which suits you?
On Gili Trawangan, besides Gili Yoga, the tourism site lists Sunset Beach Yoga Gili, a wooden shala on the west coast that it presents as a place for sunset sessions. Gili Yoga is near the harbour according to the tourism site, and in the garden behind the freediving shop Freedive Gili, next to Banyan Tree Cafe, according to its own website. It has two shalas, nine grass-roofed bungalows and a 25 m pool.
Gili Trawangan has the most shops and people of the three islands, and some places are lively at night. If morning classes are your focus, choosing a place to stay a little away from the busiest stretch of beach makes it easier to rest. Both islands are reached by boat from Bangsal Port on mainland Lombok, and foreign visitors pay a tourist levy of Rp20,000 per person.
Where can you do yoga on mainland Lombok?
On the mainland, the centre for studios is Kuta Lombok in the south. The official tourism site describes Ashtari as having a spacious wooden deck with a 180-degree view of the coastline and an organic restaurant on site, and Mana Lombok as having bamboo buildings, tropical gardens, an organic cafe and daily classes for all levels. For both, we could not confirm class times or prices.
Kuta Lombok is also a surf town, so it is an easy area to combine a morning surf with yoga later in the day. Our Kuta Lombok (Mandalika) guide covers the town and how to get there.
On the north coast, the usual form is yoga attached to a resort stay package. The Lombok Lodge’s official website says its spa and yoga package for two includes private car transfers from the airport or harbour, a day trip by boat to Gili Meno with snorkelling, daily breakfast and dinner, and more, with optional extras of four 60-minute spa treatments per person and one 60-minute morning yoga session for two. We could not confirm the package price or whether non-guests can join on the official website.
What should you compare when choosing a retreat or stay package?
If you want yoga over several days, your day looks different depending on whether you stay at a yoga centre or take a resort package with yoga attached. Staying at a yoga centre lets you walk to morning classes and choose how many classes to take. A resort package bundles transfers, meals and spa, but may include only one yoga session.
Either way, compare the following before you sign up. Retreat prices vary completely with length and inclusions, so do not compare the total price alone.
- ✓Length, and how many classes there are each day (mornings only, or mornings and evenings)
- ✓What the price includes (room, meals, transfers, spa, island trips) and how tax and service are handled
- ✓Class styles (Hatha, Vinyasa, Yin and so on) and whether beginners can join
- ✓Which language classes are taught in
- ✓How you get there from the airport or port, and how long it takes (the Gilis involve a boat)
- ✓Whether there is a roofed shala for classes on rainy days
- ✓Cancellation terms and payment methods (cash only, or cards accepted)
If you are unsure which studio suits you, one approach is to drop in for the first day or two, then switch to a class pack once you find one you like. In Gili Yoga’s case, a pack is cheaper per class if you attend three or more times.
When should you go, and what should you wear and bring?
Lombok’s dry season runs from April to October and the rainy season from November to March. Many venues hold classes outdoors or in open-sided shalas, so the drier months make it easier to keep to your plan. If you go in the rainy season, check first whether the shala has a roof. The official tourism site also advises booking popular studios ahead in the busy months.
Lombok is a predominantly Muslim island. Swimwear is generally fine on the beach and inside resorts, but in villages and near mosques, wear clothes that cover your shoulders and thighs. If you walk through a village or town in yoga clothes, put something over them.
Note
- Towel and water: even where mats are provided, you may need your own towel. It is hot and you will sweat, so bring plenty of water.
- Small cash: on the Gilis, boat fares, the tourist levy and many island payments are in cash. Carry cash even if your studio takes cards.
- Ramadan: during the fasting month, local eateries outside the tourist areas may close at midday. The next Ramadan starts on 8 February 2027 according to the calendar of the Islamic organisation Muhammadiyah. See our guide to travelling during Ramadan and Nyepi.
- Your health: take it easy when practising in the heat or straight after being in the sea. If you have a medical condition, tell the teacher when you sign up.
A note from Sekotong
Travel between the Gilis and mainland Lombok means changing between boat and car, and often takes half a day. Leave morning classes out on days when you change islands or head to the airport, and put them on days without travel instead. Class times can also change with the season or the teacher’s schedule, so check that day’s times at the front desk or on social media when you arrive.
Drawbacks to know before a yoga trip to Lombok and the Gilis, and who it suits
Yoga venues on Lombok and the Gilis are concentrated on Gili Air, Gili Trawangan and in Kuta Lombok, and elsewhere there are few studios you can confirm from published information. Many venues do not publish class times or prices online, so some things have to be checked on arrival. The Gilis can only be reached by boat, so weather and sea conditions can change your travel plans.
Even so, it suits people who want a slow trip: yoga by the sea in the morning, snorkelling or a nap during the day, and the beach in the evening. You can start easily with drop-in classes, and switch to a retreat or stay package if you want to continue for several days.
If you want quiet water after your practice, there is another option besides the three northern Gilis: the quiet South Gili islands off Sekotong in southwest Lombok. We compare them in Gili 3 vs South Gili: which should you stay at? We at Semelar Beach Village run a beach cafe (SAKURA CAFE, 10:00 to 22:00, closed Mondays), a market and a beach club with local Sasak people in a fishing village in Sekotong. It is about 1 hour 10 minutes by car from Lombok International Airport and about 40 minutes from Lembar Port. Our 13 private villas are under construction, with the first scheduled for completion in early 2027 (plan as of August 2026). What you can book now is a stay programme of 3 to 5 nights (Rp4,800,000 per person, about US$270, including airport transfers, transport during your stay, a guide, a welcome dinner and a massage; flights and accommodation are separate).
Frequently asked questions
Q. Can I join if I have never done yoga?
Some studios welcome beginners. Gili Yoga says on its website that every class is open to all levels, and the official tourism site describes Mana Lombok as offering daily classes for all levels. At other studios, ask at the front desk how demanding a class is, and start with a gentle one such as Hatha or Yin.
Q. Do I need to book?
At Gili Yoga, no: sign in at the front office at least 10 minutes before the class (private classes must be booked a day ahead). We could not confirm the policy of other studios on their websites, so in the busy months it is safest to ask the day before.
Q. Should I bring my own mat?
Gili Yoga provides mats, blocks and other props. To travel light, leave the mat at home and bring a towel and water. Check in advance whether other studios lend equipment.
Q. How many nights do I need on the Gilis for yoga?
Two nights or more, so that you have at least one full day without travel. Arrival and departure days depend on boat times, so the day in between is when you can attend a morning class without rushing.
Q. Are there classes in the rainy season?
We found no venue that publishes how it runs classes in the rainy season. If you go then, check on arrival whether there is a roofed shala and whether that day’s class is on.
Summary
The easiest places to join a yoga class on Lombok and the Gilis are Gili Air, Gili Trawangan and Kuta Lombok. Gili Yoga on Gili Trawangan needs no booking, costs Rp200,000 per class, offers class packs and provides mats and props (as shown on its official website in October 2026). Gili Air is a quiet island with daily classes, and Kuta Lombok has studios that combine easily with surfing.
For several days, decide between staying at a yoga centre and a resort package with yoga, then compare length, inclusions and travel. Many venues do not publish class times or prices, so the reliable way is to check directly with the venue before you sign up and again on the day you arrive.
