Lombok gets busy when Indonesia’s long holidays, school holidays abroad and the dry-season climbing season overlap. In 2027, the Nyepi and Lebaran (end of Ramadan) holidays in March, the height of the dry season in July and August, and late December are the times most likely to be crowded, while February and November have the fewest overlapping holidays.
This is not based on visitor statistics but on holiday and event dates. For this article we opened and read, on 6 November 2026, the Indonesian State Secretariat’s list of 2027 holidays, the school calendars of the education departments of Western Australia and Singapore, a report on the 2027 MotoGP calendar and a report on the Mount Rinjani seasons, and put them on one calendar.
It is written for anyone planning a trip to Lombok or Sekotong in 2027 who wants to pick less crowded weeks.

In short
In 2027, Lombok is likely to be busiest during the Nyepi and Lebaran holidays from 6 to 15 March, in July and August, and in late December, and the Mandalika area fills up for MotoGP on 29 to 31 October. Periods with few overlapping holidays include mid-February to early March, 13 to 24 September, 11 to 28 October and 1 to 19 November.
When are Indonesia’s long holidays?
According to the Indonesian State Secretariat (15 September 2026), 2027 has 18 public holidays and 8 collective leave days (cuti bersama, days off encouraged by the government). Domestic travel rises when public holidays, collective leave and weekends join up. The longest run is in March: Nyepi on Monday 8 March, Lebaran on 10 and 11 March, and collective leave on 9, 12 and 15 March, so some people are off from Saturday 6 to Monday 15 March.
Other long weekends are Chinese New Year on 5 (Friday, collective leave) and 6 February (Saturday); Good Friday on 26 March to Easter Sunday on 28 March, with collective leave on Thursday 25 March; Eid al-Adha on Monday 17 May with collective leave on 18 and 19 May, followed by Vesak on Thursday 20 May; and Christmas on 25 December with collective leave on Friday 24 December. Maulid on 15 August and Independence Day on 17 August fall on a Sunday and a Tuesday, so they do not make a long weekend.

When are Australian and Singapore school holidays?
Western Australian public school holidays in 2027 (Perth is the state capital) are 10 to 25 April, 3 to 18 July and 25 September to 10 October, and the summer holidays begin on 17 December (Department of Education). In January 2027, the summer holidays that start on 18 December 2026 continue until 31 January.
Singapore school holidays in 2027 are 13 to 21 March, 29 May to 27 June, 4 to 12 September and 20 November to 31 December (Ministry of Education Singapore, 14 July 2026). There are direct flights from Singapore to Lombok, and these periods coincide with family travel.

MotoGP and the Mount Rinjani season
According to the 2027 MotoGP calendar reported by crash.net (25 September 2026), the Indonesian race at Mandalika is on 31 October, and the date is provisional. Hotels around Mandalika fill up and prices rise around race weekend. The 2026 race was on 9 to 11 October.
Mount Rinjani closes every year from January to the end of March and usually reopens on 1 April. The national news agency Antara (25 June 2025) describes June to September as the busy season, when climber numbers rise sharply, and April and May as a quieter time with fewer climbers. If your trip includes a climb, this difference matters too.
Month by month
We sorted the months into three groups using these holidays and events. Busiest when holidays overlap: March, with Nyepi and Lebaran followed by Singapore’s school holidays and Easter; July, at the height of the dry season with Western Australia’s school holidays; August, in the dry season with the busy climbing season; and December, with the year-end holidays.
Fairly busy: January, with Western Australia’s summer holidays continuing; April, with Western Australia’s school holidays; May, with many Indonesian holidays; June, with Singapore’s school holidays; September, with Singapore and Western Australian holidays; and October, with MotoGP. Fewest overlapping holidays: February, after Chinese New Year, and November, as the rains begin.

Weeks with few overlapping holidays
In 2027, examples of periods that do not overlap with any of the holidays listed here are about 8 February to 5 March (after Chinese New Year), 13 to 24 September, 11 to 28 October and 1 to 19 November. February to early March is expected to fall in Ramadan, and November is when the rains begin.
From 11 to 28 October, Western Australia’s school holidays are over and MotoGP week has not yet started. In Mataram’s long-term averages October has about 3 rainy days, the weather at the end of the dry season. September and October weather and holidays are covered in Lombok in September and October.
Take care
- Indonesian and Malaysian school holidays were not checked for this article
- The MotoGP date is provisional (as of September 2026)
- The start of Ramadan is set by the government, so the February dates are an estimate
Choosing dates for Sekotong
Sekotong is in the south-west of Lombok, away from Kuta (Mandalika) and the three Gili Islands. If you travel in a busy month or over a long weekend, it is safer to arrange South Gili island-hopping boats and your airport car early, along with the rest of your trip.
From mid to late October, with few overlapping holidays, the dry-season weather lingers and island days are easy to plan. Month-by-month weather for Sekotong is in Sekotong Weather by Month.
A note from Sekotong
When you choose dates, look not only at holidays in your own country but also at Indonesia’s long weekends and nearby countries’ school holidays side by side. That makes it easier to avoid crowded weeks.
Downsides, and how to use this calendar
First, the downsides. This calendar is a guide based on holiday and event dates, not visitor statistics. It does not include Indonesian, Malaysian or European school holidays. The MotoGP date is provisional, and the government sets the start of Ramadan. February and November, with the fewest overlaps, are in the rainy season.
Use it to pick dates if you want to avoid crowded weeks and spend time on quiet beaches and islands. The Semelar Beach Village stay programme runs from 3 nights and 4 days to 5 nights and 6 days and costs Rp4,800,000 (about US$270) per person, including airport transfers, transport during the stay, a guide, a welcome dinner and a massage (flights and accommodation are separate). Sekotong is about 1 hour 10 minutes by car from Lombok International Airport. Where to stay is on Stay, and how to get here is on Getting here.
