Driving on Lombok, Kuta Lombok is about 25 minutes from Lombok International Airport, Sekotong about 1 hour 10 minutes, and Bangsal harbour, for the Gili Islands, 1.5 to 2 hours. From Sekotong it is about 1.5 hours to Mataram and about 2 hours to Senggigi or Kuta Lombok. The southwest peninsula, the northwest harbour and the south coast town are further apart than they look on a map.
For this guide we read airport transfer booking sites, route guides, travel blogs and Indonesian news in October 2026 and collected distances and times between the main places, plus taxi and ride-hailing fare guides. Where sources disagree, we give both or this site’s standard figure. Fares are guides and change with the day and time.
This guide is for anyone staying in more than one place on Lombok, such as the Gilis, Kuta and Sekotong, who wants to know how long to allow on a moving day. For choosing transport from the airport, see our Lombok transport guide.

In short
With the airport in the middle, Kuta to the south is about 25 minutes, Sekotong to the southwest about 1 hour 10 minutes, and Bangsal to the north 1.5 to 2 hours. Sekotong to Kuta and Sekotong to Senggigi are each about 2 hours, so treat a change of base as a travel day.
How long from the airport to each area?
Lombok International Airport sits in the south of the island’s centre, so times from here shape most itineraries. According to the airport transfer site mytransfers, Kuta Lombok is 17.35 km and about 25 minutes away, and Senggigi is 50.67 km and about 1 hour 8 minutes. Sekotong is about 60 km by road and about 1 hour 10 minutes by car.
To Bangsal harbour for the Gili Islands, the route guide unchartedlens gives about 65 to 70 km, 1.5 to 2 hours in normal traffic, and 2 to 2.5 hours at the busy times of 7 to 9am and 4 to 7pm. The same site gives 45 to 60 minutes to Lembar harbour on the west coast.
Ride-hailing (Grab, Gojek) fares from the airport, according to the route guide Gecko Routes (updated June 2026), are about Rp230,000 to Kuta in about 30 minutes, Rp200,000 to Mataram in about 45 minutes, Rp250,000 to Senggigi in about 1 hour and Rp580,000 to Bangsal in about 1.5 hours. The same page lists airport metered taxis at Rp120,000 to Kuta, Rp180,000 to Mataram and Rp250,000 to Senggigi.

How long from Sekotong to Mataram, Senggigi and Kuta?
Sekotong is on the southwest peninsula, so everywhere else takes a while. According to the travel blog We Seek Travel (updated July 2025), central Mataram is about 50 km and about 1.5 hours away, Senggigi about 70 km and about 2 hours, and Kuta Lombok about 80 km and about 2 hours. The same blog paid about US$17 for a Blue Bird taxi from Senggigi to Sekotong.
The road between Sekotong and Mataram passes Lembar harbour. According to detikBali (March 2024), Mataram to Lembar is about 30 to 45 minutes by car, and Lembar to Sekotong is about 40 minutes. The route between Sekotong and Kuta Lombok was not described in detail in the sources we opened. We Seek Travel says the newer mountain road heading east from Mekaki in southern Sekotong is in very good condition.

Times vary with traffic and weather.
Times to the harbours, and the boats from them
To the Gili Islands (Trawangan, Air, Meno), the boat from Bangsal takes about 30 minutes (Hotels.com guide). We could not confirm the time of the last boat from Bangsal in the sources we opened. As the airport to Bangsal can take up to about 2 hours, if you want to cross the same day, check your boat time first and leave the airport with time to spare.
For the South Gilis, you cross from Sekotong’s harbours. To Gili Gede, a boat leaves the small landing at Tembowong for Rp25,000 per person and takes about 10 to 20 minutes (travel guide Travelfish). The same guide gives Lembar to Tembowong as Rp200,000 to 250,000 by taxi or Rp30,000 by shared bemo, taking 1 to 2 hours. To Gili Nanggu, shared boats from Tawun and nearby harbours cost Rp10,000 per person and take about 15 to 20 minutes (detikBali, March 2024).
From Lembar harbour, where the public ferry from Bali arrives, to the airport, unchartedlens gives a fixed harbour taxi fare of Rp300,000 and ride-hailing at Rp150,000 to 250,000. The same site says there is no direct DAMRI bus from Lembar to the airport and DAMRI does not run at night.
Take care
- Check the time of the last boat from Bangsal to the Gilis first. If coming from the airport, leave early
- Airport to Bangsal takes 2 to 2.5 hours at busy times
- There is no direct DAMRI bus from Lembar to the airport, and none at night
- Heavy afternoon rain in the rainy season can slow the roads
Buses, ride-hailing and taxis: which to use
DAMRI buses run from the airport into town. According to Gecko Routes (updated June 2026), buses to Mataram run hourly from 8am to 10pm, to Senggigi from 9am to 6pm and to Bangsal from 9am to 4pm, with the Bangsal fare at Rp20,000. The route guide Go Asia (checked against the airport’s information in October 2026) gives DAMRI hours of 7am to 5pm. As the sources differ, check at the airport counter on the day. There is no bus to Kuta Lombok.
Ride-hailing can be booked at the airport, with the pickup point shown in the app. Gecko Routes says some people at the airport may tell you ride-hailing pickups are not allowed, but that drivers usually come to the pickup point shown in the app. In places far from town, such as Sekotong, a ride-hailing car may be hard to find for the return, so it is safer to book your return car with your accommodation or a transfer company.

Planning a day when you change base
If you stay in two or more places on Lombok, treat the moving day as a travel day. Going from the Gilis to Sekotong, for example, means about 30 minutes by boat to Bangsal, 1.5 to 2 hours from Bangsal to near the airport, then about 1 hour 10 minutes to Sekotong, so allow around 3 hours by road alone. We could not confirm a direct time from Bangsal to Sekotong in the sources we opened.
Kuta Lombok to Sekotong is about 2 hours, as is Senggigi to Sekotong. If you leave after checking out and arrive in the early afternoon, you can still spend the evening on the beach. Put island trips and longer outings on the day after you move.
The route to Sekotong, home of Semelar Beach Village, is on our Getting Here page; how a stay works is on Stay, what you can do in the village on Things to Do, and the beach cafe on SAKURA CAFE. The stay programme includes airport transfers.
- ✓Is anything else planned on your moving day?
- ✓Have you checked the Gili boat times and the time to the airport or harbour?
- ✓Have you booked a car back from places far from town?
- ✓Have you allowed for afternoon rain in the rainy season and busy morning and evening traffic?
A note from Sekotong
Sekotong is about 1 hour 10 minutes from the airport by car. On your departure day, work out when to leave by adding a margin to that time from when you want to reach the airport. Roads can slow in the rainy-season afternoon, so leaving early is the safer plan.
Downsides, and who changing base suits
First, the downsides. On Lombok, the harbour for the Gilis and Sekotong lie in opposite directions from the airport, so every change of base means nearly half a day in a car. Public transport is limited, and the further you go from town, the more you need to arrange cars yourself. Staying in three or more places on a short trip mostly adds travel time.
Still, the Gilis in the north, the beaches around Kuta Lombok in the south and Sekotong with the South Gilis in the southwest have very different seas and towns. If you have six nights or more and want to see two different coasts, counting the moving day as a full day makes combining them work.
