Lombok Private Driver and Car Charter: Day Rates, Hours, Extra Charges and Trips to Sekotong

A car with driver for a day on Lombok costs from RM99.50 (Malaysian ringgit) for a 12-hour small-car charter, or from Rp975,000 for 8 hours, on activity booking sites. Overtime runs Rp40,000 to 100,000 an hour depending on the vehicle. Whether fuel, parking, entrance fees and the driver’s meals are included differs between products, so always check before booking.

For this guide we read product pages on activity booking sites (Klook, Pelago), Indonesian news (IDN Times), a travel blog’s product review and a route guide covering airport and harbour transport in October 2026, and set out their prices and rules side by side. Prices change with the date viewed, the currency and the group size, so sources and dates are given.

This guide is for anyone who wants to combine the airport to Sekotong transfer with stops along the way, groups touring several places in a day, and travellers deciding whether to drive themselves.

How much does a car with driver cost?

Klook’s “Lombok Private Car Charter” is a 12-hour hire. Viewed on 31 October 2026 in Malaysian ringgit, it started at RM99.50 for a small car (1 to 3 people), RM111.95 for a medium car (1 to 4) and RM153.95 for a large car (1 to 5). Another 12-hour product on Klook started at RM135.05 for a small car for 1 to 4 people, RM292.55 for a 7-seater and RM315.05 for a 14-seat van.

On the booking site Pelago, “Lombok Car Rental” costs from Rp975,000 for 8 hours, or from Rp1,175,000 for an option including the Sembalun waterfalls in the north. Car, driver and petrol are included; tips and parking are not.

You can also book directly with local rental companies. The Indonesian news site IDN Times (November 2022) listed seven Lombok companies with prices “from Rp250,000” to “from Rp485,000”, including one at Rp399,000 with driver and fuel. The article is old and some prices do not say how many hours they cover, so ask each company for current rates.

How 8 and 12 hours are counted, and overtime and extra charges

Most booking-site products are 8 or 12-hour hires. Klook’s “Lombok Private Car Charter” charges overtime in cash to the driver: Rp40,000 an hour for cars such as the Avanza or Innova, and Rp100,000 an hour for larger vehicles such as the Fortuner, Alphard or HiAce.

The same product adds Rp150,000 if pickup or drop-off is outside zone 1 or the trip goes into other zones. The page does not define zone 1. On days going somewhere far from the airport, such as Sekotong, ask about extra charges before booking.

Fuel needs checking too. On Klook’s 12-hour product, one review says fuel was included for the 12 hours but an extra Rp200,000 was charged for fuel on a trip to Sembalun. On long-distance days, confirm how far the included fuel goes.

Take care

  • Some products require overtime and extra charges to be paid in cash to the driver
  • Some products charge extra for travel outside a set zone
  • Fuel can be extra on long-distance days

What is and is not included

Inclusions vary widely. Pelago’s product includes the car, driver and petrol, but not tips or parking. A 6 to 8-hour product described by the travel blog The Abroad Guide (booked through Viator) costs about US$59 per person and includes the car and bottled water, but not entrance fees, parking or meals.

Klook’s “Lombok Private Car Charter” page does not say whether fuel, parking, entrance fees or the driver’s meals are included. It says child seats are not available and that the driver can refuse the booking if passenger numbers do not match the vehicle. Luggage limits apply per vehicle, and oversized bags count as two.

The figure below lists what to check before booking.

How it compares with taxis, ride-hailing and driving yourself

For a single trip from the airport, a taxi or ride-hailing app is cheaper. The route guide Gecko Routes (updated June 2026) gives airport metered taxi fares of Rp120,000 to Kuta, Rp180,000 to Mataram and Rp250,000 to Senggigi. Grab and Gojek can be booked from a designated pickup point at the airport, with Bangsal about Rp580,000 and roughly 1.5 hours.

A car with driver makes sense on days with several stops or when a group is touring together. Booking-site drivers wait for you at the airport or harbour, so you skip the taxi queue. Gecko Routes also warns that there is still a strong taxi mafia at the airport and that some people may claim ride-hailing pickups are not allowed.

You can also drive yourself. The route guide unchartedlens gives daily car rental at Rp300,000 to 600,000, plus fuel. Consider whether your licence is valid in Indonesia and whether you are comfortable on unfamiliar roads and at night. Licences are covered in our guide to driving and car rental on Lombok, and getting around the island in our Lombok transport guide.

Figure: Choosing how to get around

1 Car with driver Best for Days with several stops, groups Price 8 hours from Rp975,000; 12 hours from RM99.50 Watch for Fuel, parking and extra charges 2 Taxi or ride-hailing Best for A single trip from the airport Price Airport to Kuta Rp120,000, to Senggigi Rp250,000 Watch for Touts at the airport, where to be picked up 3 Driving yourself Best for Confident drivers with a valid licence Price Rp300,000 to 600,000 a day plus fuel Watch for Licence rules, unfamiliar and night roads

Booking a car with driver for a day that includes Sekotong

Sekotong is about 1 hour 10 minutes by car from the airport, about 1 hour 30 minutes from Mataram, and about 2 hours from Senggigi or Kuta Lombok (the airport time is the site standard; the others are from We Seek Travel). If you plan to shop or stop in Mataram on the way from the airport, choose between 8 and 12 hours with these one-way times in mind.

Bear in mind that many booking-site products are based near the island’s centre, such as Senggigi. Klook’s “Lombok Private Car Charter” lists an address on Senggigi’s main road and has out-of-zone charges. If you are picked up or dropped off in Sekotong, check for extra charges and whether the driver’s return time counts towards your hours.

On South Gili island-hopping days, the car usually just takes you to and from the harbour, and the boat is booked separately. Harbours are covered in Harbours for the South Gilis.

The Semelar Beach Village stay programme runs from 3 nights/4 days to 5 nights/6 days at Rp4,800,000 per person and includes airport transfers and local transport during the stay, plus a guide, a welcome dinner and a massage; flights and accommodation are separate. Where you can stay is on our Stay page, what you can do in the village on Things to Do, the beach cafe on SAKURA CAFE, and the route from the airport on Getting Here.

A note from Sekotong

Drivers’ English varies. Klook reviews include both “excellent English” and very limited English. Having place names ready to show on paper or a phone map lets you give directions without relying on language.

Downsides, and who a car with driver suits

The downsides first. Booking-site prices can be shown in foreign currencies, and some products charge separately for fuel, parking or out-of-zone travel, so the final amount can be hard to predict. Booking directly with a local company can be cheaper, but the news prices date from 2022 and you need to check current rates yourself.

A car with driver suits groups visiting several places in a day, travellers who want stops on the way from the airport to Sekotong, and anyone who would rather not drive. For a single trip, a taxi or ride-hailing app is cheaper.
