On the day you fly home from Lombok, most people connect from a domestic to an international flight at Denpasar in Bali. As of November 2026, TransNusa and Wings Air fly from Lombok to Bali 83 times a week, taking about 45 minutes. International flights leave Bali at various times of day; for example, Garuda Indonesia’s nonstop to Sydney leaves every day at 23:40.
Bali’s airport has separate international and domestic buildings, and on separate tickets you are advised to allow 2.5 to 3 hours to collect and re-check your bags. For this guide we read the flight data site flightconnections, the transfer guide layoverindex and reports on the transfer walkway at Bali’s airport on 5 November 2026, and set out how to plan the day.
This guide is for people who, after time in Sekotong or elsewhere on Lombok, plan to connect through Bali to an international flight on the same day.

In short
On the day you fly home, leave Sekotong about 4 hours 10 minutes before your domestic flight, and in Bali leave at least 2.5 to 3 hours before your international flight if your tickets are separate. For a flight leaving Bali late at night, a domestic flight out of Lombok by late afternoon leaves plenty of slack. For a morning international flight, or if you are crossing by boat in the rainy season, staying a night in Bali is safer.
Domestic flights from Lombok to Bali
According to flightconnections, two airlines fly direct from Lombok to Denpasar, TransNusa and Wings Air, 83 times a week (as of November 2026, about 12 a day), with the quickest flights taking about 45 minutes. Bali and Lombok are in the same time zone, so there is no time difference.
On days you fly domestic from Lombok, the Lion Air Group’s guidance is to be at the airport three hours before departure. Sekotong is about 1 hour 10 minutes away by car, so leave about 4 hours 10 minutes before departure, and 30 minutes to an hour earlier in rain or traffic. The departure process is covered in the Lombok airport departure guide.
An example international departure from Bali
flightconnections lists six nonstop flights from Denpasar to Sydney, run by Jetstar, Qantas, Batik Air, Virgin Australia and Garuda Indonesia. The last to leave is Garuda Indonesia’s GA714, which leaves every day at 23:40 and arrives at 8:35 Sydney time (as of November 2026). The quickest nonstop on the route takes about 5 hours 55 minutes.
With an overnight departure like this, a domestic flight from Lombok by late afternoon leaves time in Bali. For other airlines and routes, work back from the departure time in the same way. Booking flights is covered in the Lombok flights and tickets guide.
How much time to allow for the connection in Bali
According to layoverindex (reviewed May 2026), the international and domestic buildings at Bali are linked by a covered walkway that takes about 10 minutes, and a free shuttle also runs. Because the route is landside, you go through security again after moving. It recommends treating an international to domestic connection as a 90-minute job at minimum even on a single ticket. It gives no separate minimum for domestic to international, but since you move between buildings the same way, 90 minutes is a reasonable starting point.
On separate tickets you collect your bags, carry them to the international building and check in again, and the guide advises allowing 2.5 to 3 hours. The two airlines on the Lombok to Bali route are not the same as most international airlines. Whether you can book one ticket with bags checked through has to be checked on the booking screen and with the airline.

| How you connect | Time to allow | Bags |
|---|---|---|
| Single ticket, bags checked through | 90 minutes or more | Not collected in Bali |
| Separate tickets | 2.5 to 3 hours or more | Collected in Bali and checked in again for the international flight |
| Move to Bali the day before and stay a night | No need to worry about domestic delays | Only the international flight to check in |

Can you use the transfer walkway that opened in August 2026?
On 17 August 2026 a transfer walkway linking the international and domestic buildings opened at Bali’s airport. According to The Bali Live (19 August), a domestic to international connection used to take about 70 minutes for passengers and about 120 minutes for bags, and the airport projects about 15 minutes for passengers and about 45 minutes for bags with the walkway. These are pre-opening simulations, and at first only transfer passengers on certain airlines can use it.
Check with your airline whether your connection qualifies. If not, allow time on the assumption that you will move landside as before.
Take care
- Only transfer passengers on some airlines can use the walkway (as of August 2026)
- The 15 and 45 minutes are the airport’s projections and have not been confirmed in practice
- On separate tickets, if your domestic flight is late, the international airline may not wait for you
Working back from when you leave Sekotong
Take a day flying home on GA714 (leaving 23:40) as an example. If you choose a domestic flight leaving Lombok around 17:00, you reach Bali around 17:45, leaving almost six hours before the international flight, which is enough even on separate tickets. To catch that domestic flight, leave Sekotong around 12:50 (4 hours 10 minutes before), and 30 minutes to an hour earlier in the rainy season.
That means a morning on the beach and leaving around midday. The last day is mostly travel, so fit the island trip in by the day before.

When is it better to stay a night in Bali first?
On days like these, moving to Bali the day before and staying a night lets you catch your international flight without worrying about domestic or boat delays: when your international flight leaves in the morning or around midday, when you are worried about delays in the rainy season, when you are crossing to Bali by boat (the public ferry to Padang Bai takes about 4 to 6 hours and can run late in bad weather), and when separate tickets leave too little connection time.
If you fly home via Singapore or Kuala Lumpur, there are direct flights from Lombok, so you can skip Bali. That route is covered in Singapore and Kuala Lumpur to Lombok, and boats to Bali in Bali to Sekotong.
A note from Sekotong
Plan the last day backwards from your international flight. Write down, in order, the international departure time, the connection time in Bali, the domestic flight time, the time you need to be at Lombok airport and the time you leave Sekotong, so there is nothing to work out on the morning itself.
Downsides, and who a same-day connection suits
The downsides first. Connecting on separate tickets carries the risk of missing your international flight if the domestic flight is late, and rebooking rules differ by airline. At Bali’s airport you go through security each time you change buildings, and moving with your bags takes time. Only some passengers can use the new walkway as of August 2026.
If you can pair a domestic flight by late afternoon with an international flight late at night, you can connect on the same day. Semelar Beach Village’s stay programme runs from 3 nights and 4 days to 5 nights and 6 days at Rp4,800,000 per person, including airport transfers, transport, a guide, a welcome dinner and a massage (flights and accommodation are separate). Because airport transfers are included, the time you leave is set to match your flight home. Where to stay is on Stay.
