Jakarta and Surabaya to Lombok: Domestic Flights, the Ship from Surabaya and Weekend Trips

From Jakarta, domestic flights to Lombok run 94 times a week (an average of 13 a day) and take about 2 hours. From Surabaya, three airlines fly in about 1 hour 5 minutes. Both cities are one hour behind Lombok, so on the clock the trip out looks an hour longer and the trip back an hour shorter. There is also a ship from Surabaya to Lembar harbour, which takes 20 to 24 hours.

Information as of November 2026

From Jakarta: 7 airlines, 94 flights a week, about 2 hours

According to flightconnections, seven airlines fly direct from Soekarno-Hatta airport in Jakarta to Lombok International Airport: Batik Air, Citilink, Garuda Indonesia, Lion Air, Pelita Air, Super Air Jet and TransNusa. There are 94 flights a week (as of November 2026), an average of 13 a day. The distance is about 1,099 km and the flight takes about 2 hours.

With so many flights you can choose an evening flight after work or an early-morning one. Which flights run on which days varies by airline and season, so check the airline’s timetable before booking. Ways to reach Lombok from abroad are on Getting to Lombok.

From Surabaya: 3 airlines, about 1 hour 5 minutes

According to flightconnections, three airlines fly direct from Juanda airport in Surabaya to Lombok: Citilink, Lion Air and Super Air Jet. The listed frequency differs by direction: 15 flights a week from Surabaya to Lombok (as listed in October 2026, about 2 a day) and 36 a week from Lombok to Surabaya (as listed in November 2026). The distance is about 412 km and the flight takes about 1 hour 5 minutes.

Example Lombok to Surabaya timings listed on airportoverview are Citilink QG671 leaving Lombok at 8:35 and arriving in Surabaya at 8:45, Lion Air JT865 at 11:40 arriving 11:45, and Citilink QG673 at 12:00 arriving 12:05. All take 1 hour 5 to 10 minutes; arrival looks almost the same as departure because of the time difference. The site’s frequency counts are inconsistent, so check with the airline before booking.

The time difference and airport check-in times

Jakarta and Surabaya are on Western Indonesian Time (WIB), one hour behind Lombok’s Central Indonesian Time (WITA) (airportoverview). On the way out the clock jumps forward an hour, and on the way back it goes back an hour. Timetables use local time at each end, so keep this in mind when timing connections and transfers.

On days you fly domestic from Lombok, the Lion Air Group’s guidance is to reach the airport three hours before departure. Sekotong is about 1 hour 10 minutes away by car, so leave about 4 hours 10 minutes before departure, and 30 minutes to an hour earlier in rain or traffic. Is the ship from Surabaya worth it?

According to an auto2000 article (18 June 2025), ships from Tanjung Perak in Surabaya to Lembar on Lombok include state-owned Pelni’s KM Egon and Dharma Lautan Utama’s (DLU) KM Kirana VII. The distance is about 637 km, and the crossing takes 20 to 24 hours depending on the weather and the ship. The article gives sailing dates from June 2025 as examples and says departure times can change, so confirm with the operator. It does not list fares.

The ship suits people who want to bring a car or motorbike, or who prefer not to fly. It takes too long for a weekend and suits longer breaks. The harbour and onward transport are covered in the Lembar harbour guide.

From the airport and the port to Sekotong

Sekotong is about 1 hour 10 minutes by car from Lombok International Airport and about 40 minutes from Lembar harbour. The airport is in the south-centre of the island, Lembar is on the west coast, and Sekotong lies on the peninsula running south-west from Lembar. If you land on an evening flight you will reach Sekotong after dark, so it is easier to book a transfer in advance.

Planning around the 2027 long weekends

Based on the Indonesian State Secretariat’s announcement (15 September 2026), time off in 2027 clusters around Chinese New Year from Friday 5 February (collective leave) to Sunday 7 February, from Thursday 25 March (collective leave before Good Friday) to Easter Sunday on the 28th, and around Eid al-Adha and Vesak from Saturday 15 to Thursday 20 May, among others. From Saturday 6 to Monday 15 March, Nyepi and the Eid break run back to back, but airports and ports are crowded with people going home.

For a two-night weekend, take a Friday evening flight and reach Sekotong that night, use Saturday for an island trip, and fly back on a Sunday afternoon. With three or more nights, you can separate island-trip days from beach days. How many nights to stay is covered in how many nights in Sekotong.

Downsides, and who a weekend from Java suits

The downsides first. On a two-night weekend, arrival night and departure day are mostly travel, leaving only one day for an island trip. Airports are busy on the first and last days of long weekends. The ship from Surabaya takes 20 to 24 hours, and sailing days and fares have to be checked before you go.

With frequent flights and about two hours in the air, it suits people living in Jakarta or Surabaya who want to skip crowded Bali on a long weekend and spend it in a seaside village.
