Sekotong’s sea today

The sky and sea in Sekotong right now, with the wind, rain, sunset, moon and which village shops are open. Further down, in “Which island today?”, try to guess the island our forecast-based guide points to.

The weather and local time are loaded by script. If the script does not run, the tables below (shop hours, what each island offers, and monthly averages) still work.

Which island today?

Using only the weather forecast and what our articles say about each island (boat time, places to eat, snorkelling), this page picks one island as a rough guide. Choose an island first, then see the answer.

Kayak

Kayaking today?

Kayaks (seven of them) paddling out into the bay from the beach in front of SAKURA CAFE are planned to start on 7 November 2026.

This looks only at the wind between 7 and 11 AM on the chosen day (the best time, according to our Things to do page). Under 4 m/s: “looks easy”; 4–6 m/s: “wait and see”; 6 m/s or more: “not a kayak day”.

Whether kayaks go out is decided on the spot, looking at the sea on the day.

Night

Tonight’s sky

How we read the moon comes from our stargazing article: choose nights around the new moon; for early evening, from the last quarter to a few days after the new moon.

Which island today? How it decides

If the forecast for the chosen day’s morning (7 AM to noon) has wind under 5 m/s and almost no rain, the guide is Gili Nanggu (coral right off the island); with wind of 5–8 m/s or 1–5 mm of rain it is Gili Sudak (about 15 minutes from Tawun, with warungs reported); with wind of 8 m/s or more, 5 mm of rain or more, or thunder, it is “a day not to cross to the islands”. The island facts come from our articles; the cut-off numbers are this page’s own.

This is a rough guide based on the weather forecast; on the day, the boatman decides.

About the calculations and cut-offs
  1. Current weather and the three-day outlook come from the MET Norway forecast (CC BY 4.0), for the same point as our home page (8.74°S, 115.95°E), saved on your device for 30 minutes.
  2. Sunrise and sunset use a simple NOAA formula; the moon’s phase and the next new moon use an approximate astronomical formula. Expect differences of a few minutes, or up to a day.
  3. The wind cut-offs (4, 5, 6 and 8 m/s) and rain cut-offs (1 and 5 mm) are this page’s own. We look at the morning because our boat charter guide says the water tends to get windier and choppier in the afternoon and is calmer in the morning.
  4. Tides are not shown.
