Lombok Airport Departure Guide: How Early to Arrive, the Check-In Process, and What to Do at the Airport

How many hours before your flight home should you get to the airport? If you’re connecting through Bali or Jakarta, where do you go through immigration? Can you bring a power bank or liquids in your carry-on? These questions tend to surface as the end of a Lombok trip approaches. The short answer: whether you’re connecting through a domestic flight to Bali or Jakarta, or flying directly on an international route to Kuala Lumpur or Singapore, both the time to arrive at the airport and where you clear immigration change.

As a rough guide, arriving 2–3 hours before departure for domestic flights and 3–4 hours before for international flights should let you move through the process calmly. Cutoff times vary by airline, so treat these figures as guidance only, and check your own boarding pass or e-ticket for the final word.

This article draws only on what could be confirmed as of September 2026: the departure procedures published by Lombok International Airport’s official website, and the official timing guidance from the airlines serving the route (including the Lion Air Group). Where official sources didn’t let us confirm something — such as exact lounge opening hours — we’ve noted that in the relevant section.

This is written for people finishing a stay on Lombok (including Sekotong) and heading home. It covers both travelers connecting from a domestic flight to an international one in Bali or Jakarta, and those flying an international route direct from Lombok to Kuala Lumpur or Singapore.

As of September 2026

What this article covers

  • ✓How many hours ahead to arrive at the airport for domestic vs. international flights
  • ✓The flow from check-in to boarding (there are two security checks)
  • ✓Where you clear immigration — direct from Lombok, or connecting via Bali/Jakarta
  • ✓Currency exchange, food, and lounges inside the terminal
  • ✓Working backward from the airport travel time from Sekotong to your departure time

In short

As of September 2026, for domestic flights out of Lombok International Airport (LOP) — connecting via Bali or Jakarta, for example — plan to arrive 2–3 hours before departure. For international flights to Kuala Lumpur (AirAsia, Batik Air Malaysia, Lion Air) or Singapore (Scoot), plan for 3–4 hours before. Since it’s about 1 hour 10 minutes by car from Sekotong to the airport, aim to leave your accommodation 3–4 hours before a domestic departure, or 4–5 hours before an international one. Check-in cutoff times vary by airline, so always confirm on your own e-ticket.

How many hours ahead should you arrive, for domestic vs. international flights?

The Lion Air Group (Lion Air, Batik Air, Wings Air), which serves Lombok, officially advises arriving 3 hours before departure for domestic flights and 4 hours before for international flights. Since flight frequency to and from Lombok isn’t high, it’s reassuring to follow this guidance closely.

Meanwhile, Lombok International Airport’s own departure guide states that check-in counters open 2 hours before scheduled departure — the same wording for both domestic and international flights. So the flow is: arrive at the airport in line with the airline’s guidance (3–4 hours before), then actually complete check-in once the counter opens, 2 hours before departure.

We confirmed on the airport’s official website that its international routes are AirAsia Indonesia (to Kuala Lumpur, nearly daily), AirAsia Berhad, Batik Air Malaysia, Lion Air (launched June 28, 2026, also to Kuala Lumpur), and Scoot (to Singapore). Since there’s no direct flight from Japan to Lombok, these routes aren’t much use for a Japan-bound connection, but they do offer a way through to Malaysia or Singapore.

A note of caution

  • Cutoff times vary by airline: these figures are a guide based on official information from some airlines, including the Lion Air Group. Other airlines serving the airport may use different times, so always check your boarding pass or e-ticket.
  • Flight frequency is limited: unlike Bali’s Ngurah Rai Airport, Lombok’s airport doesn’t handle nearly as many flights, and its layout tends to concentrate passenger flow. It’s safer to allow extra time.

From check-in to boarding: the flow

The departure flow described on the airport’s official website is largely the same for domestic and international flights. First, entering the terminal, you go through a first security check (X-ray screening of your bags and a walk through a metal detector). You’re asked to keep phones, keys, and other metal items in your bag, and to declare a pacemaker or firearm to staff if you’re carrying one.

After the first security check, you check in at your airline’s counter, handing over checked baggage and receiving your boarding pass. The airport’s general guidance is one carry-on bag under 7kg, though the weight and number allowed vary by airline and fare type, so check your own ticket’s conditions beforehand.

After checking in, you scan your boarding pass to proceed to a second security check. You’re asked to remove belts, watches, hats, jackets, keys, and coins. Knives, lighters, cutters, and other prohibited items aren’t allowed through, so double-check you haven’t left any in your carry-on. Finally, you wait at the gate printed on your boarding pass.

Where do you clear immigration? Direct from Lombok vs. connecting via Bali or Jakarta

Where you go through immigration depends on which route you take. If you’re flying directly from Lombok International Airport to Kuala Lumpur or Singapore, Lombok International Airport itself is equipped as an international airport with immigration facilities, so you clear immigration at Lombok before boarding. Our guide to arriving at Lombok Airport touches on getting a Visa on Arrival (VOA) at Lombok on arrival, which is really the flip side of the same fact: the airport has both entry and exit immigration functions.

On the other hand, if you take a domestic flight from Lombok to Bali (Denpasar) or Jakarta and connect to an international flight there, the Lombok–Bali leg is purely domestic travel. Immigration is cleared at the airport where you actually leave Indonesian territory — that is, at the international terminal in Denpasar or Jakarta. At Lombok, you only go through domestic procedures, and no exit stamp is issued there. We explain the principle that you clear immigration “at the airport where you first entered the country” on arrival in our article on Indonesia entry procedures — on departure, it’s broadly the reverse.

That said, we couldn’t confirm the minimum connection time required between the domestic and international sections from official sources. Jakarta and Denpasar sometimes have separate terminals for domestic and international flights, which can mean collecting your baggage and checking in again. If your tickets are booked separately, build in extra time and confirm with your airline or travel agency. For an overview of routes via Bali, see our article on getting from Bali to Lombok.

Currency exchange, food, and lounges inside the airport

The airport’s official website lists categories of facilities — currency exchange counters, ATMs/banks, a VAT refund counter for foreign travelers, duty-free shops, an information desk, and charging stations — but doesn’t name individual outlets. In a video published by our team on YouTube in September 2025, Hiroki Nakamura, who runs a business in Sekotong, visited the international departure area and mentioned seeing a souvenir shop and a Starbucks, noting that the international departure lobby was quite crowded at the time of filming (video). Local travel guide sites also mention a Starbucks among the airport’s food options. If you want to spend your remaining rupiah before departure or are considering exchanging currency again, it’s most reliable to check the day’s rate at the exchange counter in person.

We confirmed through lounge-program listings (such as Priority Pass) that a “Concordia Lounge” exists in the domestic departure area. Access is offered through Priority Pass, eligible credit cards, or a paid entry option. Opening hours were listed differently across sources, so we’re not stating specific times here. We couldn’t confirm whether a separate lounge exists on the international departure side.

From Sekotong to the airport: how many hours ahead should you leave?

From Sekotong to the airport is roughly 1 hour 10 minutes by car. Add that to the airport-arrival guidance (3 hours before for domestic, 4 hours before for international), and leaving your accommodation 4 hours 10 minutes before a domestic departure, or 5 hours 10 minutes before an international one, should get you to the airport in line with the official guidance. In practice, it’s safer to build in another 30 minutes to an hour for traffic and checkout.

In the rainy season (roughly November to March), road conditions and sudden rain can add to travel time. Allow more slack than you would in the dry season. Our article on getting from the airport to Sekotong covers the route and road conditions in more detail. For late-night arrivals or early-morning departures, it helps to set a specific pickup time with your accommodation or charter driver in advance so you’re not scrambling on the day.

Minimum carry-on limits: liquids and power banks

For international carry-on, liquids, aerosols, and gels (LAGs) must be in containers of 100ml or less, packed into a single clear, resealable bag of 1 liter or less per person. This is a general international standard that likely applies to Lombok’s Kuala Lumpur and Singapore flights as well, but we couldn’t confirm how far the same rule applies to domestic flights. If in doubt, it’s safest to pack liquids in checked baggage.

For power banks, the Lion Air Group — which operates Lombok’s domestic flights and the newer international route to Kuala Lumpur — publishes an official standard: units of 100Wh (roughly 20,000mAh) or less can be carried on without extra approval; those over 100Wh and up to 160Wh need airline approval and are capped at two per person; anything over 160Wh isn’t allowed at all. None of these can go in checked baggage. If you’re flying with another carrier such as AirAsia, check that airline’s own official guidance before you travel.

  • ✓Checked your check-in and boarding cutoff times on your boarding pass or e-ticket
  • ✓If connecting via Bali or Jakarta, built in enough time between the domestic and international legs
  • ✓Checked the watt-hour (Wh) rating printed on your power bank
  • ✓Packed liquids in 100ml containers in a clear bag, or moved them to checked baggage
  • ✓Set a departure time for your transfer from Sekotong to the airport with your accommodation

A note from Sekotong

It’s a good idea to settle on a specific departure time for your car on your final day with your accommodation or charter operator, by the day before your flight at the latest. Rather than sorting your power bank and liquids while standing in the check-in line, separating your carry-on and checked items back at your room before you leave cuts down on getting flagged at security. If your domestic and international tickets are issued separately, it’s worth checking at the Lombok counter beforehand whether your baggage can be checked through to your final destination.

Before the paperwork of leaving, there were days spent in Sekotong

As this article has laid out, leaving Lombok takes more effort than departing from Bali or a major Japanese airport. Flight frequency isn’t high, so you need to build in slack; connecting flights mean the airport where you clear immigration changes; and some of the finer points of connection times remain unconfirmed. Honestly, if getting there and back easily is your priority, Lombok — and a district like Sekotong in particular — isn’t the best fit.

Even so, a certain number of people go to the trouble of reaching Sekotong precisely because what you get in exchange for that inconvenience is the sea and quiet of a fishing village that hasn’t been built up for tourism. Sekotong also serves as a gateway to the southern Gili islands, and doesn’t see many international tourists. Whether the stay on the other side of that hassle feels worth it, even after accounting for the complexity of getting home, is what determines whether this is the right place for you.

If ease of travel and airport access matter most to you, staying somewhere better connected, like Bali, is the better fit. If you’re willing to accept some connection hassle in exchange for time in a quiet fishing village, Lombok and Sekotong are a real option.

Frequently asked questions

Q. If I’m connecting through a domestic flight to Bali or Jakarta on the way home, can my baggage be checked all the way to my final destination?

Whether baggage can be checked through depends on the airline and how you booked. Confirm at the Lombok check-in counter; if it can’t be checked through, you’ll collect your bag at the connecting airport and check in again.

Q. If I’m flying direct from Lombok to Kuala Lumpur or Singapore, where do I clear immigration?

Lombok International Airport itself is equipped with immigration facilities, so you clear immigration there before boarding. That’s different from connecting via a domestic flight to Bali or Jakarta and clearing immigration there.

Q. Can I bring a power bank in my carry-on?

Under the Lion Air Group’s standard, units of 100Wh or less can be carried on without extra approval. Those over 100Wh up to 160Wh need approval and are capped at two per person, and anything over 160Wh isn’t allowed. None can go in checked baggage. If flying with another airline, check that carrier’s official guidance.

Q. Are there restrictions on bringing liquids?

On international flights, the general standard is containers of 100ml or less, packed into one clear bag of 1 liter or less per person. We couldn’t confirm whether the same rule applies to domestic flights, so if in doubt, pack liquids in checked baggage.

Q. Is there a lounge at the airport?

We confirmed a “Concordia Lounge” in the domestic departure area, accessible through Priority Pass, eligible credit cards, or a paid entry. Opening hours vary across sources, so check locally on the day if you plan to use it.

Summary

Leaving Lombok International Airport looks different depending on whether you’re connecting through a domestic flight to Bali or Jakarta, or flying directly on an international route to Kuala Lumpur or Singapore — both the airport-arrival guidance (2–3 hours vs. 3–4 hours before) and where you clear immigration change. The flow from check-in to boarding, with two security checks along the way, is largely the same either way.

Since it’s about 1 hour 10 minutes by car from Sekotong to the airport, adding the airport-arrival guidance to that tells you roughly when to leave your accommodation. Build in another 30 minutes to an hour for traffic and rainy-season road conditions. Cutoff times, connection windows, and carry-on rules vary by airline, so check the official website just before you travel for the latest information.
